Your information

Privacy and cookies

We keep this simple: we only collect what we need to answer your enquiry, we don’t sell it, and we don’t track you around the web.

Who we are

This website is run by Tech Kent Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16579207). We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number ZC265238. We are the “controller” of the personal information described on this page.

Registered office: Laurel House, Sharps Field, Headcorn, Ashford, Kent, TN27 9UF.
Email: support@techkent.co.uk
Telephone: 01622 584332

What we collect and why

When you send an enquiry through our contact form we collect your name, email address, the message you write, the type of enquiry you choose and, if you give them, your business name and telephone number. We use these to reply to you and to discuss or provide our services. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries from people who contact us, or, where you ask us to take steps before entering into a contract, taking those steps.

When you phone, email or message us on WhatsApp we keep the details you give us (such as your name, number and what you need help with) so that we can support you and keep a record of our conversations.

If you become a customer we hold the information needed to provide and invoice our services and meet our legal and accounting obligations. We will give you more detail when we agree the work.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it. We only send you marketing if you have asked us to.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the website and handle enquiries. They act on our instructions:

  • Netlify, which hosts this website and the database where enquiries are stored.
  • Microsoft 365, which delivers your enquiry to our support mailbox and holds our email.
  • Cloudflare, which provides our cookie-free visitor statistics.
  • Google, but only if you choose to show the map on our contact page (see “Cookies and similar technologies” below).

We may also share information where the law requires it, for example with our accountants, or with regulators or the police.

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on safeguards such as the UK’s adequacy regulations for the destination country or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries that don’t lead to work for up to 12 months after our last contact with you, then delete them. If you become a customer, we keep your records for as long as we provide services and then for the period the law requires for accounting and tax records (normally six years).

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information, or restrict how we use it;
  • object to us using your information based on our legitimate interests; and
  • ask for the information you gave us in a portable format.

To use any of these rights, email support@techkent.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Cookies and similar technologies

Our own cookies: this website does not set any cookies of its own, and we do not use advertising or tracking tools. Our fonts are hosted on this website rather than loaded from elsewhere. Because of that, we don’t show a cookie banner.

Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites and does not build a profile of you. Cloudflare receives your IP address and basic browser details to produce these totals, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Google Maps: our contact page can show a map of our head office. Nothing is loaded from Google until you click “Show map”. When you do, Google receives your IP address and device information, and may set cookies on your device, under Google’s privacy policy. Your choice applies to that page view only, so if you reload the page the map will be hidden again. You can also use the “Open in Google Maps” link instead.

WhatsApp links: choosing to message us on WhatsApp takes you to WhatsApp, which is run by Meta and has its own privacy policy.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Guidance is available at ico.org.uk.
